What's in a name?
Formerly called Family Life Service, the title of the renamed the Ford Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre reflects our growing service offering. The name stems from our Wexford pride, as well as the fact that river fords can be crossed easily on foot.
A ford provides a safe crossing, which is exactly what our counselling/psychotherapy services aim to do, reflecting the movement within therapy from pain/distress to transformation and integration. The Ford Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre is the trading name for Family Life Service Ferns Clg.

EMBRACING POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH IN THE COMMUNITY.
Our remit is to provide our affordable counselling/psychotherapy services to support the development of positive mental health for all.
We aim to do this through the nurturing of positive relationships for all individuals who engage with our service to support them to live in better relationship with themselves, with their families and the wider community. We are constantly working towards developing a needs led response through identifying the needs of our clients.
One of our aims is to improve functioning in the family unit and reduce disadvantage in the community. As a result, we have begun to reach out to other community-based services including Family Resource Centres and other counselling and support services so that we can learn from and support one another.
CONFIDENTIAL SERVICES IN A SAFE, COUNSELLING/ PSYCHOTHERAPY CENTRE
Our friendly team of counsellors/psychotherapists (referred to here as therapists) and support workers are professionally trained to deal with a range of mental health and relationship issues. Working as a team of therapists under management and supervision gives the service an added strength of shared expertise.
Some of the problems we help clients with include anxiety, depression, stress and childhood trauma.
Our approach to counselling is person centred, building professional relationships that are open, respectful and non-judgemental.
We provide counselling/psychotherapy in a comfortable, yet confidential, environment.
Our philosophy of putting the clients at the centre of the therapeutic relationship helps them understand their behaviour and empowers them to find the path to recovery.
Our services are open to everyone in the community.

WHAT IS COUNSELLING/ PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Counselling/psychotherapy is both the process and the space where you meet a qualified therapist to work through personal problems that are affecting your life negatively. It allows people to discuss their issues and difficult feelings in a safe setting.
A therapist will help you address problems in a positive way by helping to clarify your issues, explore solutions and increase self-awareness. Our therapists won’t tell you what to do, but rather help you develop the ability to understand the root of your difficulties and find better ways to cope.
All therapists who provide counselling and psychotherapy at the Ford Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre are professionally trained and have achieved or are working towards recognised accreditation with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), Irish Association for Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) or equivalent. Our therapists are here to provide a safe crossing to anyone who needs it.
