Anxiety Counselling & Therapy

Anxiety Counselling Wexford

Everyone can experience anxiety at times, but if you are constantly worrying, you may want to talk to someone.

Anxiety is a natural response to stressful situations. It’s normal to be a little bit anxious before an exam or a job interview. But if these feelings are extreme or you find them difficult to control, they can start to affect your life in a negative way.

People who always expect things to go wrong or constantly worry about money, family, health, relationships or work may have an anxiety disorder.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety becomes a problem when the feeling is extreme or constantly on one’s mind. When someone worries more than is appropriate in any given situation, it can affect their quality of life. Anxiety disorders can also result in physical symptoms.

Some common signs of anxiety include:

  • Extreme Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Heart palpitations or an increased heart rate
  • Nausea or gastrointestinal issues
  • Difficulty concentrating on anything other than a present worry
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feelings of nervousness
  • Shortness of breath or hyperventilation
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Feelings of weakness

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Although feelings of anxiety can be completely normal, you may want to consult a GP or attend a therapist if it is affecting your day-to-day life.

Anxiety can be an indication of conditions, such as panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or social anxiety disorder. If your feelings of anxiety are acute or last more than six months, you may have one of these disorders.

A therapist can gently speak to you about your worries and fears. They will be able to identify if you have an anxiety disorder and assist you in dealing with these feelings. The FORD Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre’s therapists can help you develop the skills to manage anxiety in a positive way.
